It may just be a straight line. You will have to look for it as the manufacturer didn't bother to put it in an easily seen area. 1999 bmw 523 2.5 E39 model? hello my neighbour has bought a bmw E39 model with auto transmission ,i did the brakes all round replacement for her , but she said that the gears are having problems changing up ,it starts of in 3rd gear instead of first as their is a yellow lite on dashboard illuminate which is showing that there is sumting wrong with gearbox, and also the A.B.S. lite is on, no reverse lites come on either, fuel dial does not work ,nor does the speed and rpm clocks. ,i put code reader on car and shows upPO700/ transmission control system malfunction., not sure if car needs new transmission or ecu module,,, the bmw drives fine except for the fault code and tranny...not sure if any-one had similar problems or what could i be looking out for,,, should i change the tranny oil filter and oil.. ,is there a sensor in tranny that needs replacing or new g/box... thanks for any advise, much apreciated. car insurance.

In the lineup of 1999 Honda Civics, the EX model was not know for its speed. That laurel was reserved for its more extrovert Si relative, which had more power and handling since it was built to be sportier. But that doesn’t mean that the EX can’t be made just as fast or faster than an Si with the right approach. Keep in mind that a “faster” car is not always one that simply has more power but one that also has more handling and braking, and maybe even weighs less.

Install a better suspension. Though a lot of people think that the first thing you should do to make a car like an EX faster is installing a new exhaust or air intake, a lower, stiffer suspension goes a long ways toward making a car faster. Remove the existing shocks and springs, and install adjustable, performance shocks paired with lowering springs. The car will corner with less roll, have more grip and have a lower center of gravity. Round out the suspension upgrades with a front strut brace, which bolts between the shock towers so the chassis flexes less. You can also replace the stock rubber bushings with stiffer polyurethane ones.

Install stickier tires. Once the car has been lowered, install a set of tires made from softer compound rubber. These can be installed along with larger wheels and tires for even more performance (as well as an upgrade in looks) or you can simply have the new tires installed on your existing wheels. Do not attempt to install new tires yourself, as it requires special equipment to properly mount and balance them.

Upgrade the engine’s power. This can be done in steps and in a number of different ways. Start with a cold air intake and a larger diameter exhaust. A new intake will deliver more dense, cold air to the intake side of the engine thanks to its tubing and larger cone filter on the end. To install an intake, unbolt the stock air box from the engine and install the intake in its place. The larger diameter exhaust will get spent gasses out of the motor more quickly and allow the engine to make more power and run more efficiently. Next up is the a re-flashed ECU. The ECU is the computer that runs the engine. Reprogramming the stock setting for fuel, air and spark to more aggressive setting will allow the engine to make more power.

Lighten the car. This is one of the more radical ways to make a Civic EX faster but can also be one of the more effective. Start by removing the heavy stock front seats and installing lighter, one-piece racing buckets. These hold the occupants in far better, too, though they are not as comfortable. Replace the stock wheel with a lighter racing-style wheel. If you do not need the rear seats, remove those as well and install a layer of carpet in their place. If you really want to shed weight, remove the factory carpeting, and sound deadening in the interior and the trunk, replacing it with a thin layer of carpeting. On the outside of the car, remove the stock steel hood and trunk, and replace them with carbon fiber pieces for more weight savings.

Hood scoops are readily available from most aftermarket retailers.

Install a turbo charger to add horsepower. The Entourage is equipped with a relatively small 3.8-liter V6 engine. This is smaller then most SUV and mid-sized minivans. A turbo charger uses the vehicle's exhaust gases to push air into the engine to create additional horsepower. This will give the vehicle more acceleration speed and will help give it a sportier feel. This modification is considered major engine work and you will usually need to find a local repair shop that specializes in aftermarket horsepower upgrades.

Install an air suspension kit. This replaces the shocks on the Entourage and allows the user to adjust the air ride settings to control the softness or stiffness of the vehicle's suspension. This can be important if the minivan is carrying its full occupancy of seven adults. Using air bags will allow you to compensate for the weight, thus reducing the amount of sag in the suspension. This will keep the vehicle level and more responsive to steering since all the weight will not be pushed to the back of the vehicle.
